Student education
We are often contacted by students (school, nursing & medical) about infertility and what treatment options are available. There is a range of information available on our web site as well as a series of brochures that may answer your questions.
Overview
Infertility is defined as the inability to conceive after a year of unprotected intercourse, or the inability to carry pregnancies to a live birth. There are many causes of infertility affecting both males and females (for example tubal factors, not releasing an egg and sperm problems) and up to 10% of cases are unexplained.
There is strong evidence associated with some lifestyle factors and fertility. In particular increasing age, weight and smoking.
A variety of treatment options including IVF are available and the most appropriate treatment is tailored to the couple’s or individual’s needs.
