HIV-positive fertility options

Weโ€™re excited to be leading NZ againโ€ฆย  Back in 2016, Repromed were proud to be NZโ€™s first healthcare organisation to be awarded the Rainbow Tick for our inclusive fertility care.ย  This year we have been working closely with New Zealand AIDS Foundation (NZAF), Body Positive and Positive Women Inc. on an exciting initiative for people living with HIV who are wanting to have a baby or donate sperm to help others.

It is now well established that people living with HIV who are taking antiretroviral drugs, can achieve an undetectable viral load and therefore have a zero chance of transmitting the virus to their sexual partners and children.ย  All forms of fertility treatment (e.g. IUI, IVF) are a safe option for those with HIV wanting to try for a baby.ย  We are now pleased to share that men living with HIV, who have an undetectable viral load, are able to become โ€œknownโ€ sperm donors.

With the clinic sperm donor wait list currently well over a year in NZ, this opens up options for those who are needing a sperm donor.ย  If you know someone living with HIV who is taking antiretroviral drugs and willing to donate their sperm, Repromed are happy to help facilitate the fertility treatment.

We are delighted to be working with NZAF, Body Positive and Positive Women Inc. to help educate New Zealanders on the significant reproductive advances for those living with HIV, which benefits our Rainbow community in such a positive way.ย  Find out more on our ReproFact sheet about HIV-positive fertility options.
