Repromed at COVID-19 Protection Framework – updated 17 June 2022

Kia ora,

Auckland Tamaki Makaurau is currently working within the COVID-19 Protection Framework. In order to protect our clients, staff and the healthcare system, we have additional layers of protection in place.

Repromed is continuing to offer all treatments and services and is here to support all Repromed clients.

Changes to our practices effective Friday 17 June:

  • The tracer app is no longer required to be scanned.
  • Vaccine passes will no longer be scanned (however it is still our advice to be fully vaccinated).
  • Rapid Antigen Test (RATs) can now be completed by clients at home. See our updated RATs Q&A HERE.
  • All other safety precautions remain in place, as outlined below.
  • You can now book on with your next period if it has been two weeks since the onset of infection with Covid-19 and you are feeling healthy.

Keeping our clinic safe

For Repromed to safely operate within the COVID-19 Protection Framework, we are required to maintain an increased level of safety precautions. While we are continuing to restrict the volume of people in the building, you will find our front door open.

Below are the required steps for our clients:

  1. The most critical requirement is that anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms must not visit the clinic. COVID-19 symptoms are broad and varied, therefore please do not attend if you are displaying even just one of the following:
  • Runny nose, sore throat, headache, fatigue, sneezing, persistent cough, hoarse voice, chills, muscle aches, fever, dizziness, altered smell, sore eyes, chest pain and swollen glands.
  • If you have any of the above symptoms, get tested immediately – the sooner you can be diagnosed, the better your recovery and quicker your treatment can continue. Additionally, if you have been identified as a household contact, please contact us and we will advise you on what to do.
  1. Wear a mask arriving to the clinic and at all times within the building. The current recommendation is to wear a fresh disposable mask (not fabric). Ask our staff if you require a mask.
  2. Our current policy, is to minimise the number of people in the building by limiting clinic visits to clients only. We know that in some circumstances you may wish to bring a support person. If this your preference, please let us know in advance of your appointment.

For clients who have tested positive for COVID-19:

Our policy to optimise cycle outcome and safety, is to wait a minimum of two weeks and be in good health before booking on for an IVF/ICSI cycle. This may vary depending on the cycle type, e.g. long down regulation or estrogen priming, therefore please call our nurses for clarification. For OI, IUI and FET cycles, a minimum of two weeks wait and being in good health, are requirements before booking on. A sperm test is recommended for individuals planning an IVF cycle and have suffered an elevated temperature/fever as part of their COVID-19 symptoms, to check sperm quality has not been affected.

Additional measures:

  • We will continue to offer virtual consultations with doctors, orientations and drug teaches with nurses however a limited number of face-to-face consultations will be available where necessary.
  • If you are coming for an egg collection, anesthetic or TESA (FETs no longer require testing) you will be given a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) at your prior appointment for you to complete before you arrive for your next appointment. The nurses will provide you with instructions for recording the evidence of the result, which will be checked by our admission staff.
  • Semen samples should be produced at home where possible. If you need to use our private room on site to produce the sample, then we will give you a RAT for you to complete before you arrive.

A COVID-19 surcharge of $35 is currently invoiced for most treatment cycles to cover the additional administration, PPE and tests that are required during the current framework.

Check the Labtest website before attending for bloods

Labtests have reduced the number of locations that are available for blood tests, so we highly recommend that you check to find out which one is open nearest you.

Public funding

At Repromed there is no difference in the way private and public treatments are managed or prioritised for book ons during the Protection Framework. Public clients on our waiting list for treatment will receive a letter with an update.

Summary of risks

COVID-19 Consent forms are required if you are undergoing treatments. We need to make you aware of the treatment risks during a COVID-19 pandemic and in addition, there are significant worldwide delays in freighting, manufacturing and delivery of fertility drugs and IVF consumables. Repromed has robust processes in place to mitigate the risk of shortages, but all clients do need to be aware that there continues to be a small risk of treatment cancellation while COVID disruptions are still present.

If you haven’t yet seen this from the nursing team, you may be interested to see this.  Click here to read the consent form.

Pregnancy during COVID-19 and the vaccination

For pregnant clients and those due to have a pregnancy test, your care won’t change and you will have bloods and scans as planned, unless you’re advised.

We understand that if you are pregnant you may naturally feel anxious about your health and that of your baby. Please discuss with our doctors or nurses if you have concerns regarding COVID-19 vaccinations and pregnancy. Our advice is to follow the most up to date recommendations from The Royal Australian and NZ College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, which is that the COVID vaccination is safe and recommended during pregnancy. Read our vaccine guidelines here.

Personal and wellbeing support

We know this is a challenging time for everyone, particularly if you are managing fertility uncertainty or timing concerns. Most treatments include at least one counselling session. Our wonderful counsellors have a wealth of knowledge, compassion and advice to offer you and are here if you would like a support call or Zoom session. Please email and a counsellor will contact you as soon as possible to book your session.

Nutrition support

Repromed Dietitian Teresa Gudex has written an article with her top tips to boost fertility which may be a helpful read for those interested in improving their fertility with nutrition. Read the article here.

We are here for you so please contact us if you have questions

Going through fertility treatment is difficult enough and we feel for all our clients who are having to deal with the added challenges of navigating the changing restrictions. For any queries, please email and our team will be happy to help.
